Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith and Chris Rock?
Chris Rock purportedly extended an invitation for a date to Jada Pinkett Smith amidst swirling divorce speculations surrounding her marriage with Will Smith. Reports about the state of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s marriage have piqued public interest in recent years, including the curiosity of Chris Rock, as disclosed by Pinkett Smith herself.
Pinkett Smith revealed that every summer, there would be reports suggesting that Will and I were on the verge of divorce, and in a particular summer, Chris Rock believed that we were headed for a split. He reached out to me and expressed his interest in taking me out.
Pinkett Smith confessed to being surprised by the unexpected call. She recalled their conversation, saying, “I was taken aback and asked, ‘What do you mean?’ He inquired, ‘Aren’t you and Will getting a divorce?’ I clarified, ‘No, Chris, those are merely rumors.’ He was quite taken aback, profusely apologized, and the matter was resolved.”
Pinkett Smith elaborates on this encounter in her upcoming memoir, titled “Worthy.”
At the 2022 Oscars ceremony, tensions between the parties flared when Rock, while presenting an award, made a jest about Pinkett Smith’s hair loss due to alopecia. In response, Will Smith slapped Rock on stage.
Pinkett Smith stated that she believed there had been a “misunderstanding” between her and Chris, specifically referring to their involvement in the 2016 Oscars. During that year, Rock was hosting the awards show, and Pinkett Smith had called for an Oscars boycott as part of the #OscarsSoWhite movement, protesting the lack of diversity in nominations, especially her husband’s snub for his role in “Concussion.”
In retrospect, Pinkett Smith acknowledged that she may not have fully grasped the pressure Chris Rock was under at the time. She remarked, “I probably should have reached out to him and asked, ‘Hey, are you okay?’ Just to let him know that, despite my stance on the Oscars, I wish him the best and am thinking of him. But he might have been hurt by the situation.”
The two subsequently had a conversation and reconciled after the 2016 Oscars incident, according to Pinkett Smith.
Following the slap at the 2022 Oscars, Rock attempted to apologize to Pinkett Smith during a break in the ceremony. She recounted their exchange, saying, “He said, ‘I didn’t intend to harm you.’ I replied, ‘I can’t discuss this now, Chris. This pertains to past issues, the Oscars in 2016, and matters they had even before I entered the picture in the late ’80s. I’ll leave it to Will and Chris to address, but they have their own history for sure.”
Pinkett Smith’s memoir is scheduled for publication on October 17th.
