Video – This top-of-the-range Smartphone has the price of a mid-range Smartphone
If you are looking for a smartphone with a top of the range Snapdragon processor, a long battery life and a 120Hz display, the Realme GT is definitely worth your consideration. With features like 5G and fast charging, the phone is well equipped to compete with top-of-the-line flagships, at the price of a mid-range smartphone.
Design and screen
The phone packs a 120Hz Super AMOLED display, an array of three 64-megapixel cameras, a 4500mAh battery, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 5G chip. For the non-expert, these are all features and specs that we traditionally find on much more expensive phones.
The Realme GT is a thin and light phone with dimensions of 158.5 x 173.3 x 9.1mm, and weighs 186g. The edges of the phone are shiny dark silver metal, slightly wider at the top and bottom of the phone. On the right is the power button, while the volume controls and the SIM card slot are on the left. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack on the base of the phone, along with a USB-C port for charging.
The 6.43-inch Super AMOLED display is surrounded by a thin black bezel; the front camera resides in the upper left corner. This display boasts a 120Hz refresh rate and 360Hz touch sample rate, delivering very smooth scrolling and lightning-fast response time. The screen also contains two ambient light sensors, to automatically adjust the brightness.
Cameras
The Realme GT is equipped with a three-camera array, consisting of a 64 megapixel Sony IMX682 main sensor, an 8 megapixel ultra-wide sensor, and a macro sensor 2 megapixel camera. Realme claims that its multi-frame synthesis algorithm offers clarity close to 108 megapixels, capturing several 64-megapixel images simultaneously. The camera also features 10x zoom.
This smartphone has a Night mode and a Pro Nightscape mode. While Night Mode greatly reduces the noise level in an image and brightens the scene in general, Pro Nightscape goes a step further by offering manual controls such as ISO and shutter speed, which allow you to control how much light is allowed in. The resulting images are even brighter and smoother than those captured with standard Night mode.
On the front of the phone is a 16 megapixel camera, with AI beauty mode and Portrait mode. This front-facing camera creates bright, crisp selfies with soft backgrounds (and adding the AI โโtweaks doesn’t hurt).
Performance
One of the features that makes Realme GT a flagship device, is the top-of-the-range chipset that powers it. The GT packs Qualcomm’s current flagship chip, the Snapdragon 888 5G, along with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. The chip not only offers 5G support at an affordable price, but it also offers considerable performance power: the phone is fast and responsive, and moves between apps with very little delay.
As for the operating system, the GT is equipped with Realme UI 2.0, based on Android 11. The skin includes some fun customization features, including the ability to set a custom color scheme, many always-on display themes to choose from, and fonts and icons also customizable – just to name a few. In general, the operating system is intuitive and easy to navigate.
Battery life
The Realme GT has a huge 4500mAh battery that can easily last a full day, with average usage. For example, when streaming video it takes 52 minutes for the battery to drop by just 5%.
The GT supports Realme’s 65W SuperDart charging technology, which means the USB-C charger in the box is capable of taking you from 0% to 100% in just 35 minutes.
You can also save battery easily by entering the power saving mode. This requires the phone to close some background apps, pause the auto sync always in background feature, dim the display, and turn off touch vibrations.
