Miley Cyrus sheds tears
On Friday, Miley Cyrus revealed her latest music video for the new song “Used to Be Young.” The video portrays her contemplation of her partying days and her acceptance of the changes in her identity over time.
In a press release, the artist, who is 30 years old, described the poignant ballad as a tribute to one’s past, self-love, and anticipation of the future. She expressed pride in her history and hopefulness for what lies ahead.
She continued her message by expressing gratitude to her dedicated fans for transforming her aspirations into reality on a daily basis. She sincerely thanked them for their unwavering support and dedicated the song to them.
Within the lyrics of “Used to Be Young,” the artist reminisces about the periods in her life and career when she indulged in partying. Despite growing older and finding new significance in life, she conveyed that she doesn’t regret those experiences.
The song’s simple and stripped-down visual, showcases the artist walking along a dim path. She halts directly in front of the camera, wearing a Mickey Mouse t-shirt as a homage to her days on Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana.
As she sings the emotional lyrics of “Used to Be Young,” tears stream down the singer-songwriter’s face for the majority of the video. Towards the end, she breaks into a wide grin, seemingly embracing her past and fondly recalling it.
The artist spoke about the music video, sharing how it evoked strong emotions due to a unique technology that allowed her to interact with her mother through the camera. She described the experience of witnessing her mother dancing, causing her to laugh and cry, and deemed it a genuine portrayal of emotions that is rarely seen nowadays.
“Used to Be Young” is the artist’s first new single since her album “Endless Summer Vacation” was released in March.
