Beyoncé’s mom files for divorce

Tina Knowles-Lawson has initiated divorce proceedings from Richard Lawson, known for his role in “All My Children,” following their eight-year marriage. The renowned fashion designer, who is also the mother of music superstars Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. The divorce petition, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court under her legal name Celestine Lawson, seeks to restore her previous last name, Knowles, which she acquired during her first marriage to Mathew Knowles, the father of Beyoncé and Solange. Tina and Mathew divorced in 2011 after being married for 31 years.

The couple has no children together, and Tina has requested that the court not award spousal support to either of them. As they work through the process, they are also dealing with the division of their property, including assets and debts.

Recently, Tina’s Hollywood Hills home was targeted by burglars who stole a safe containing over $1 million in cash and jewels while she was away. Authorities are investigating the incident using security camera footage from her property and nearby locations. Additionally, in April, a man was arrested for damaging Tina’s mailbox.

The couple’s last public appearance together was in March when Tina shared a picture of them at the Vanity Fair Oscar party on her Instagram feed, along with a description of their fashion choices for the night.

In 2021, Richard Lawson, known for his roles in “Poltergeist” and “For Colored Girls,” revealed that he was introduced to Tina while she was married and pregnant with Beyoncé by his sister.

Prior to his marriage to Tina, Richard Lawson was married to actor Denise Gordy from 1978 to 1989, and they have a daughter named Bianca Lawson and a son named Ricky Lawson.
