John Goodman’s inspiring health journey: sobriety, weight loss, and renewed energy
John Goodman, known for his role in “The Righteous Gemstones,” made a striking appearance at the 62nd Monte-Carlo TV festival, just before turning 71. According to reports, Goodman has been focused on his health since 2007, when he decided to quit drinking.
By eliminating alcohol from his lifestyle, Goodman managed to shed 100 pounds. He enlisted the help of health coach Mackie Shilstone, adopted a sugar-free diet, and committed to working out six days a week.
Goodman explained his motivation, stating, “It takes a lot of creative energy to sit on your ass and figure out what youโre going to eat next. I wanted to live life better.” Six years later, he opened up to critic Peter Travers, revealing, “I just stopped eating all the time.”
He admitted, “Iโd have a handful of food and itโd go to my mouth. I was just eating all the time. I was just eating alcoholically. In the old days, I would take three months out, lose 60 or 70 pounds, and then reward myself with a 6-pack of Bud or whatever and just go back to my old habits. Then this time I wanted to do it slowly, move, exercise. Iโm getting to the age where I canโt afford to sit still anymore. And it gives me the energy to work, โcause work is very draining.”
This year, John Goodman served as the jury president at the Monte-Carlo TV festival.
